Rev. Macaraeg is new bishop of Tarlac
BISHOP-elect Enrique De Vera Macaraeg was formally installed as the new Bishop of Tarlac in an Episcopal Ordination rites at the St. John the Evangelist Metropolitan Cathedral here on Tuesday, attended by 40 archbishops and bishops and some 200 priests from all over the country.
Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas, also president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), led the ordination rites as principal ordaining bishop, with Most Rev. Florentino Cinense. Bishop-Emeritus of Tarlac; and Most Rev. Rodolfo Beltran, Bishop of San Fernando, La Union as co-ordaining bishops.
The solemn ordination rite was attended by Most Rev. Giuseppe Pinto, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, and Archbishop Jose Palma, former president of the CBCP.
The ordination rite was the last official rite that Most Rev. Macaraeg had to take before assuming his post as Bishop of Tarlac having been appointed to the position on March 31, 2016 by Pope Francis.
Bishop Macaraeg, 61, will assume the position left vacant due to the resignation of Bishop Florentino Cinense.
Ordained priest on May 19, 1979, his first assignment was a member of the team of seminary formators at the San Pablo Seminary in Baguio and the Mary Help of Christian College Seminary in Dagupan City.
Then he rendered priestly ministry in various parishes, namely: Our Lady of Fatima in Quezon City, Saint Thomas Aquinas in Mangaldan, Epiphany of the Lord in Lingayen, Holy Family Parish in Sta. Barbara and Saint Ildephonse Parish in his hometown of Malasiqui.
He was also school director of Saint John’s Cathedral School in Dagupan, Saint Charles Academy in San Carlos City and San Vincent Catholic School in Bayambang.
Prior to his appointment as Bishop on March 31, 2016, Bishop Macaraeg was Vicar General and Vice Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan. (Leonardo Micua)
