OVERSEAS Filipino Workers (OFW) or their dependents in Pangasinan who wish to pursue technical vocational course may apply for a training assistance program from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

The OWWA Skills for Employment Scholarship Program (SESP) is extended to OFWs who are active OWWA members, or their dependents, who wish to enroll in any tech-voc course in an institution accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in the region.

Completion of any TESDA-accredited short-term course will merit a graduate with a National Certificate II (NC I or NCII), which is a common requirement for skill-oriented local and overseas jobs.

Under the scholarship, the applicant is granted the actual cost of training fee or a maximum of P14,500.

Apart from tech-voc courses, the SESP also applies to any TESDA-accredited ladderized baccalaureate degrees. Some of the degrees using the ladderized system are BS Information Technology, BS Computer Science, BS Hotel and Restaurant Management, and BS Tourism.

The scholarship is open to OFWs who return to the country with valid OWWA membership. If the OFW is abroad, the scholarship is also extended to the OFW’s qualified dependents: spouse or child for married OFWs; or single sibling for single OFWs. OFW child should also be 21 years old or below by the time of application.

So far, 228 OFWs and dependents have availed of the scholarship in 2015.

Interested applicants in may visit and inquire at OWWA RWOI at the 2nd Floor, Kenny Plaza Building, Quezon Avenue, City of San Fernando, La Union. They may also call at hotline numbers 0927 620 7300 and 0908 863 4300.
