NO “P-I’s, PLEASE!

ABSOLUTELY no cussing or expletives on TV or radio will be tolerated, including possibly those from President-elect Rodrigo Duterte.

This was stressed by officials of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) during the KBP forum last week.

MTRCB Board Member Jojo Salomon told local newsmen even Mr. Duterte who is fully aware of the impact of foul language particularly on TV or radio, has mentioned in earlier interviews that he has learned to control his mouth whenever interviewed by media.

“I’m sure as president of the Philippines, he knows that he can no longer keep the same habit (of cussing),” Salomon said.

MTRCB Board Member Maloli Supnet reminded TV and radio networks their franchises specifically provides that they (networks) should be responsible for whatever comes out or aired in their public affairs programs.

“We cannot pass on that responsibility to a government agency,” she said. There must be an effort to self-regulate, she pointed out.

During public affairs programs, she said technicians, reporters and news editors must be vigilant in advising resource persons or news subjects to be conscious about words uttered during public affairs programs aired live.

Salomon also stressed that if incoming president Duterte continues to use profanity, it’s the network’s lookout and it will be the one to be held liable.” (Tita Roces)
