LINGAYEN— “I’m excited to get back to the swing of things but have a new element, which is now public service.”

Thus remarked the new representative of the Fourth District, Christopher ‘Toff’ De Venecia, in an interview after his proclamation on May 10, 2016.

Toff was a columnist for Young Star, the Friday youth section of The Philippine Star, for 12 years before he took a leave as required by the election law.

He said he is excited to get back to writing while serving his district, which was formerly served by his parents, former Speaker of the House Joe De Venecia and incumbent Rep. Gina de Venecia.

The 29-year-old solon garnered more than 170,000 votes or over 90% of the total number of votes and easily won over four other bets.

“It feels weird but I am also very excited… I worked so hard in the past few months sa campaign trail,” he said, conceding that he has a lot of preparations to do.

He thanked his parents and all other supporters including the Iglesia Ni Cristo for the support he got.

“I didn’t realize the good they have done all these years until I went around in the district.. it is such an honor to continue that legacy of truth, of honesty, and of public service,” he said of the accomplishments of his parents.

Cong. Toff said his legislative agenda will focus on development of ecotourism.

He used to direct and produce theatrical plays. His last play last year was “No Filter: Let’s Talk About Me,” described as “a play by millennials, for millennials, about millennials.”

He was also a former child star, having appeared in sitcoms such as Ober da Bakod, Billy Bilyonaryo, Haybol Rambol, and movies such as Pretty Boy and Kung Kailangan Mo Ako.

Toff finished college at the Ateneo de Manila University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.

He described himself as a combination of his mom and dad, kind and strict. (Johanne Macob)
