Comelec 100% ready for the polls
THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) Pangasinan is 100 percent ready for the conduct of May 9 polls in more than 1,000 polling precincts in the province, the provincial election supervisor assured.
Lawyer Joel Gines said the more than 6,000 Board of Election Inspectors, support staff and monitoring workforce, including the police are ready to perform their poll duties in Pangasinan.
He said while only reports of alleged rampant vote-buying are getting in the way of their preparations, no one has formally filed charges.
Gines said to enable working mothers to vote, day care centers will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on election day to look after their children.
He also warned on the use of government vehicles by some campaigning candidates as it constitutes an election offense.
Meanwhile, a disqualification case was received by the Comelec office in Dagupan City against five candidates for councilor in the city for holding bingo bonanza during a campaign sortie in violation of Omnibus Election Code. (Tita Roces)
