Political bigwigs rally for Cojuangco-Macanlalay team

FOR the first time, a gubernatorial aspirant and his entire team held their proclamation rally at the capital town of Pangasinan, right at the Lingayen town plaza, on March 28 for the May 9 polls.

Top Pangasinan leaders – mayors and their respective complete line-up, aspirants for board members and congressmen – came in full force and rallied behind the candidacies of former Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco and Calasiao Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay for governor and vice governor respectively, under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC)-Biskeg na Pangasinan political parties.

“This is a historic political event as no proclamation rally of a gubernatorial aspirant and his team was ever made here and where mayors and other officials together with their the supporters gathered here to show their unity and support,” former Second District Board Member Von Mark Mendoza said in his speech. Mendoza is seeking a comeback in his post in this coming election.

Re-electionist Alaminos City Mayor Arthur Celeste said 38 incumbent mayors, including three city mayors plus their entire municipal slate, as well as candidates for board members, some of whom are re-electionists, were there to boost the NPC-Biskeg line-up.

He added that six out of seven Pangasinan congressmen and Abono party-list Rep. Conrado Estrella III who is based in Rosales town, are one for Cojuangco-Macanlalay team.

 “If we know our mathematics in politics, I can feel that after one and a half months, the next governor is Mark Cojuangco,” Celeste said before a crowd of about 5,000 people.

Lingayen Mayor Josefina “Iday” Castaneda gave the welcome address. Among the speakers during the NPC-Biskeg na Pangasinan proclamation rally of their local candidates were Manila Economic and Cultural Office chairman Amadito Perez Jr, Pangasinan Mayors’ League president and Dasol Mayor Noel Nacar, Mayors Julier Resuello and Amadeo Perez IV of San Carlos City and Urdaneta City respectively, former Third District Rep. Rachel Arenas representing her mother Rep. Rose Marie Arenas, re-electionist Sixth District Rep. Marlyn Primicias-Agabas, Estrella, Bugallon Vice Mayor Rodrigo Orduna, unopposed re-electionist Sto. Tomas Mayor Timoteo Villar III representing his uncle former Dangerous Drugs Board chairman Secretary Antonio Villar Jr of the Dangerous Drugs Board and lawyer Gerald Tabadero, aspirant for board member who read 4th District Rep. Gina de Venecia’s message of support for Cojuangco and Macanlalay.

Both MECO Chair Amadeo Perez Jr. and former Sec. Antonio Villar Jr. are considered Pangasinan’s political kingpins who are close to Cojuangco and his father, business tycoon Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco.

Rep. Kimi Cojuangco joined her husband Mark Cojuangco during the motorcade and proclamation rally. The couple sang a duet.

Macanlalay also sang for his wife Byorn who was also on stage to support the NPC-Biskeg entire slate.

A jubilant Mark Cojuangco, a three-term congressman of fifth district, and his tandem Macanlalay enumerated their programs and visions for a more progressive Pangasinan if elected this May 9.

Cojuangco said on top of his agenda is to make Pangasinan an investment destination to boost development and employment of the people.

He also mentioned several programs on health, education, agriculture, among others.

“The most important thing to me tonight is your presence which shows our strength in the coming elections,” Cojuangco said before a cheering crowd of political leaders and masses.

Board members and mayors in every district were separately proclaimed with their respective team.

Prior to the proclamation rally, mayors and their line-ups in every district gathered in one area and trooped altogether in a motorcade towards Lingayen plaza.
