Elevated to Hall of Fame

Lingayen – Pangasinan, under the leadership of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr.,is recognized anew as region’s Cleanest, Safest and Greenest for the third time in a row (2013, 2014 and 2015) elevating the province to the Hall of Fame in the said search.

The collective efforts undertaken by the local government unit (LGU) of Pangasinan in collaboration with various municipal and city LGUs, non-government organizations (NGOs), national government agencies (NGAs) and various community sectors in the province for environmental leadership and peace and order made Pangasinan the runaway winner in the Regional Development Council (RDC) search.

Pangasinan’s latest governance award was announced during the governance sector committee 1st quarter meeting of the RDC held at the Capitol Resort Hotel here on March 28.

RDC senior development specialist Mary Jane Cacanindin, who led the onsite visit of the RDC validating team for said search in December 2015, stressed: “Pangasinan has maintained and even scaled up in terms of performance in areas of peace, order and security and environmental management, protection and conservation.”

“The provincial government’s thrust on environmental governance has a clear direction for Pangasinan environment to be properly conserved, preserved and managed,” Cacanindin said, as she commended the support system of the provincial government to help realize good causes for the environment.

LGU – Pangasinan will receive its RDC award on April 20 during the State of the Regions’ Development Council (SORDC) in San Fernando City, La Union.

Highlighting the best practices and innovative practices of the provincial government in environmental leadership, the Coastal Resource Management (CRM) program of Pangasinan which serves as the backbone of various environmental programs and advocacies of the Espino administration, had already gained various regional and national citations by the RDC and the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Pangasinan is also a Hall of Famer in Coastal Resource Management (CRM); as a recipient of this environmental award for three consecutive years (2008, 2009 and 2010).

The “Ilog Ko Aroen, Tan Bilayen Ko,” a major component activity of Pangasinan CRM which led to the massive dismantling of illegal fishing structures and dredging of silts from river basins, rivers and waterways in Pangasinan was also launched as a natural flood mitigation measure and to bolster tourism efforts.

As a result of the effective implementation of various environmental advocacies in the province, various LGUs and even private institutions in the country had visited Pangasinan to replicate best practices in environmental leadership./Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca
