Pangasinan, a major beneficiary of PNoy’s projects, say
SOME Php20 billion was spent by the Aquino administration in Pangasinan from 2010 to 2015, according to former Finance Undersecretary Jose Vicente Bengzon.
In a press conference Thursday at the Philippine Information Agency media center, Mr. Bengzon said that of the amount, at least Php14.8 million was spent by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for various infrastructure projects like roads and bridges.
That is why, in Pangasinan, there are many road-widening projects, said Mr. Bengzon, a native of Lingayen.
Moreover, he said, there are 127,000 beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps) in Pangasinan, among the 4.4 million beneficiaries throughout the country is considered a big leap from the 404,000 beneficiaries when Gloria Macapagal Arroyo left office.
On health care, the Aquino administration doubled the budget for PhilHealth to bankroll the health insurance of Filipinos, said Bengzon.
He said the projects were made possible by the improved tax collection minus the corruption that usually plagued administration of public funds.
From the business point of view, this, he said, spawned favorable climate for investment pointing out that the interest rate was down to as low as five percent which never happened at any time in the past, from a high of 10 to 12 percent.
Mr. Bengzon said all these benefits were made possible under the “Matuwid na Daan” program and expressed hope that on May 9, when the people will go to the polls, they will choose somebody who will continue the upward economy.
“PNoy is not saying that under the “Daang Matuwid”, we are already a perfect economy. No, we are not. We must continue the way we are governed,” he said. (Leonardo Micua)
