LINGAYEN— The provincial government will stage the first-night job market in the country on Labor Day, May 1.

Dubbed as the 1st Pangasinan Night Job Market, the event expects the participation of employers and job seekers to be held at the Pangasinan Provincial Employment and Services Office (PESO) Compound, Capitol Complex in the town.

According to Alex Ferrer, Pangasinan PESO chief, the job market is “a special jobs fair because it will be held at night, unlike a regular jobs fair normally held at daytime.”

It is in response to the problem encountered by jobseekers and career-changers who could not avail of past regular jobs fairs because of their daytime commitments, Ferrer said.

He cited one instance when a construction company failed to recruit enough because would-be applicants did not appear since they could not afford to lose their day’s salary just to apply for another job.

The night job market will be conducted from 6 p.m. to 12 midnight, in celebration of Labor Day and Pista’y Dayat and in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 1, the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) Pangasinan Chapter, and the Pangasinan Association of Private Technical-Vocational Institutions, Inc. (PAPTVI).

Fifteen companies for local employment and five overseas placement agencies have already confirmed their participation.

Job opportunities will be for nurses, doctors, and other health/medical personnel; hotel and restaurant personnel; mall/department store/ sales staff; construction and industrial skilled and semi-skilled workers; factory workers; administrative/office staff; and farm and agricultural workers.

To support the event, the provincial government will provide free overnight accommodation at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Centre dormitory to job applicants coming from far-flung areas.

Meanwhile, DOLE Region 1 said simultaneous day jobs fairs will be held at Robinson’s Mall in Calasiao and SM City Rosales- will be held on Labor Day. (Johanne Macob)
