Mom charged for death of baby
BASISTA—A 26-year old mom was charged with parricide after her month-old baby died for allegedly shaking her hard to put her to sleep.
Charged on April 19 at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in San Carlos City was Gina Aquino of Barangay Cabeldatan here for the death of her daughter Dona Mae.
P/Sr. Insp. Buenaventura Benavides III, town police chief, told The PUNCH that the baby was discovered dead Monday night by the victim’s grandfather, Jaime Aquino, when he brought in food for them.
Benavides said a rosary was looped around the baby’s neck while the mother was staring at her. Jaime reportedly thought initially that the baby died of strangulation.
The autopsy report, however, said the baby died from shaken-baby syndrome, caused by violent shaking, Benavides said.
Since the baby was already dead for an hour, the family did not bother to bring her to the hospital.
Police investigation showed Aquino was allegedly suffering from mental depression caused by her separation from her former live-in partner. Their eldest child is with her ex- partner.
The suspect is detained at the town police station. (Tita Roces)
