‘Team Pangasinan’ bags 4 golds, settles 6th in 3rd day of PNG

Lingayen – Pangasinan athletes racked up three gold medals in wrestling events yesterday, March 9, in addition to one gold medal captured in dancesports competition earlier to boost Team Pangasinan’s ranking at the ongoing Philippine National Games (PNG) – National Championships held here from March 7-11.

The Philippine National Team is still leading by a mile during Day 3 of actual PNG competition (As of 11 a.m., March 10) displaying a medal haul of 49 golds, 20 silvers and 8 bronzes, followed by Baguio (17-6-4) and Cebu City (14-11-16).

With a harvest of 4 golds, 9 silvers and 11 bronzes, “Team Pangasinan” of host province climbed to the 6th spot from 9th yesterday out of 45 teams joing the national championships.

            Gold medallists from Pangasinan include winners in wrestling events, namely: Jerome Dolim (Greco-roman, junior 50kg), Jhungie Framil Mari (Greco-roman, junior 45kg) and Jan Michael Poncejo (Greco-roman, junior 69kg); and Jhommel Molina and Gynann Garcia of Pangasinan State University who captured Pangasinan’s first gold medal in the dancesport – grade (c) latin category competition.

Pangasinan taekwondo jins pulled away with five more silver medals in different weight divisions of the taekwondo (kyorugi) competition which include: Jilliane Clare Dela Cruz (senior women – heavy weight); Diine Grace De Guzman (senior women – middle weight; Allysa Nicole Tersol (senior women – light weight); Andrei Servito (junior women – welter weight); and Earl Maynard Sarmiento (junior men – (welter weight).

Other silver medallists of Pangasinan are: Women Fide Master (WFM) Cherry Ann Mejia (random chess women); Alder Gian King Amir Abdalla and Clarissa Vinluan (dancesport – grade (c) latin); Ronaldo Abanes (wrestling greco – roman, junior 50kg); and Feren Lester Ponceja (wrestling greco – roman, senior 59kg)

Meanwhile, nine (9) more bronze were produced by Pangasinan entries in taekwondo (kyorugi) events in addition to two bronze hauled earlier by Ronald Datuin and Heither Yuson (dancesport – youth (b) standard); and Mark Gemson Sison and Shannele Faye Cruz (dancesport – youth (d) latin).

Taekwondo bronze medallists are: Nathalia Gloria (senior women’s featherweight); May Ann Moreno (senior women’s middle weight); Janessa Ganiban (junior women’s flyweight); Arnethea Iris Posadas (junior women’s flyweight); Allona Thess Crisologo (junior women’s lightweight); George Kevin Agsalud (junior men’s lightweight); Jerson Manuel (senior men’s finweight); Roberto Lopez (senior men’s bantamweight); and Harold Bautista (senior men’s featherweight). /Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca
