NFA assures enough rice supply

THE National Food Authority (NFA) has assured the people of western Pangasinan of sufficient rice stocks for the next 115 days.

Juliet Orias, assistant provincial manager of NFA Western Pangasinan office, said there are 1.351 million commercial, household, and government rice stocks for the 115-day consumption of the community, 232,000 bags of which are safeguarded in NFA warehouses in Alaminos City, Mangatarem, Lingayen and Dagupan City.

By the end of June, the office is set to procure new rice stocks. Present rice stocks were imported from Vietnam and Thailand.

Meanwhile, Orias said there are 92 institutionalized bigasan NFA outlet stores in Western Pangasinan selling NFA rice at P27 per kilogram for the 25% broken grains and P32 per kilogram for the 15% broken grains.

“The NFA rice is available at all times and each consumer can buy up to 25 kilograms,” she said and added that her office is still open to accrediting outside the market outlet or one outlet per barangay.

She pointed out that with free flow of rice trade, the government has to continue to import rice because farmers are not required to sell their produce to NFA at a lower price. (Johanne R. Macob)
