LINGAYEN-Dagupan archbishop and Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines president Socrates Villegas warned Catholic faithful in Pangasinan about the operation of “Ancient Catholic Church of the East” that offers religious services in barangay chapels in the province.

“The sect is not a Catholic group so never participate in their religious rites because it might endanger your faith,” the archbishop said as he issued the same in a circular to the priests in the archdiocese of warning of the deceptive operations of the alleged priests of the sect, reportedly headed by one Anthony Obinque of Barangay San Gonzalo in Labrador town.

“Sila ay mga huwad at nagmimisa rin sila pero hindi sa karangalan ng Diyos, kundi para sa pera,” he said.

Villegas said the group is prohibited from using Catholic chapels for their liturgies, which simulate the Catholic rites.

He also said the activities of the group should serve as a wake-up call for the priests to reach out to the barangay communities who thirst for their spiritual care. (AMM-PIA)
