LINGAYEN— The municipality of Burgos has been identified as the recipient of the national government’s Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan, Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services National Community-Driven Development Program (KALAHI CIDSS NCDDP) in Pangasinan.

Judith Cabillo of the Provincial Social Welfare Development Office said as a KALAHI area in the province, it will receive P29.2 million to cover four cycles, with each cycle getting P7.3 million.

KALAHI CIDSS NCDDP is a poverty alleviation program of the national government being implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) that seeks to improve local governance by strengthening the capacity of citizens in identifying, designing, and implementing development activities that would reduce poverty.

According to Cabillo, all the 14 villages in the town have identified priority projects for their respective communities, mostly construction of small water reservoirs, roads, and elementary school classrooms. Many have already received their listed BUBs.

Brgy. San Vicente’s farm-to-market road was completed while Brgys. San Pascual Papallasen got their barangay roads; Brgy. Sapa Pequeña received its deep well and Poblacion, its one day care center.

Burgos, with a population of 18,315 in year 2010, is the only town in Pangasinan included among the KALAHI beneficiaries because of its poverty incidence rate of 26.32%, as determined by the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) 2010 data.

Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. is set to sign the MOA with DSWD Region 1 Director Nicomedes Castillo and Burgos Mayor Alberto Guiang Jr. (Johanne R. Macob/PIA)
