Binmaley braces for calamities

BINMALEY– Anticipating the severe impact of future calamities that may hit the town, the local government of Binmaley has began constructing evacuation centers for affected residents.

Mayor Simplicio Rosario said the construction of evacuation centers in the villages of Balogo (Centro), Baybay Lopez, Buenlag, Calit, Camaley and Malindong (phase 1) have already been completed while the construction of the evacuation centers in barangays Balagan, Balogo (Pandel), Caloocan Dupo, Pallas and Salapingao in is now on its first phase.

An evacuation facility is also being constructed in the Poblacion area beside the town’s Manpower Development Center.

The mayor said the on-going project is funded under the Bottom-up Budgeting (BUB) of the Department of Interior and Local Government with counterpart from the local government.

Mr. Rosario said while no emergency requires the use of the evacuation centers, these will be used for barangay events and recreational programs.

Other barangays will also have their own evacuation centers soon, he said.

Aside from evacuation centers, Rosario said the local government has also procured new rescue vehicle as well as rescue equipment and conducted basic life support training as part of its disaster risk reduction and management programs. (AMM, PIA)
