School athletes arrive in in San Carlos City

SAN CARLOS CITY – The 2016 Region I Athletic Association (R1AA), the biggest sporting event in the region, will be hosted by the school division of  San Carlos City  on February 21-26.

More than six thousand elementary and high school athletes from fourteen school divisions in the region will participate in the event and began arriving in the city over the weekend.

Event games in the weeklong R1AA will include archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, billiards, bocce, boxing, chess, football, futsal, goal ball, gymnastics, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wrestling and wushu.

Division Superintendent Dr.  Lorna Bugayong said an athletic parade is scheduled at 2 pm of February 21 prior to the opening program at 3 p.m. where City Mayor Julier Resuello will welcome the athletes.

A welcome party for the division delegates is set in every billeting school on February 22 and the Mayor’s Night on the 23rd while, a fellowship night will be held at the Don Federico Mandapat Sports Dome on February 24.

The awarding of medals and trophies to the winners will be held during the closing program on February 26.

Anchored on the theme ‘Celebrating Life and Victory through Sports’, the R1AA is a crucial competition in the region to determine the finalists for the Palarong Pambansa. (VHS/PIA1-Pangasinan)
