Poe: Pangasinan deserves an international airport

SENATOR Grace Poe reiterated her proposal for the establishment of an international airport in Pangasinan, and described those who opposed and laughed at this proposal when she first brought it out as having “narrow minds.”

Speaking before students of the University of Pangasinan, she said being one of the most populous province in the Philippines, Pangasinan deserves to have an international airport to give more access to investors and tourists coming to Pangasinan.

Despite the presence of the Clark International Airport, Poe wants a similar facility be put up in Pangasinan as the province, she said, has a big number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who may use this as their exit and entry points.

Development of Pangasinan will be made faster, she said, if the province has its own international airport as the province will soon become the beehive of foreign investments.

Ms. Poe also spoke of the need to amend the economic provision in the Constitution that restrains foreigners from wholly owning properties and businesses in the Philippines.

She foresees more foreign investors will come to the Philippines to invest and help stimulate and develop the economy if the charter’s economic provision is amended.

At the same time, she said she intends to focus on agriculture to ensure more food for the country and improve the income of the farmers. She will seek the establishment of more agri-processing plants and food terminals.

Poe said the fight against graft and corruption will be hastened with the passage of the Freedom on Information bill which ensures that any person can secure documents of certain transactions entered into by people in the government.

At the same time, she revealed her aspiration to be formally adopted as daughter of Pangasinan, the province of her adoptive father who was from Cauayan Kiling, San Carlos City.

Poe and her runningmate Francis Escudero, also visited University of Luzon, and Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation in San Carlos City before holding a rally at the San Carlos City Plaza.  (Leonardo Micua)
