Cop commended for saving 30 persons from harm
DRUG ADDICT WENT BERSERK
URDANETA CITY– A policeman here received commendation for neutralizing a drug addict and saving 30 persons from harm on Saturday in Barangay Bacag, Villasis.
P/Supt. Jeff Fanged, city police chief, said P/Senior Police Officer 1 Herminigildo Ramos, for exemplary performance of his duty in an encounter with a drug addict who went berserk.
SPO1 Ramos receives citation during last Monday’s flag raising ceremony.
Ramos shot dead Enrique Cayanan, 44, from Barangay Estrada, Capas, Tarlac when the latter attempted to drive away with a passenger bus that was carrying 30 passengers at the time for no known reason.
Investigation showed Cayaan initially drove away dawn of Saturday with a jitney at Barangay Maligaya, Tarlac City after reportedly hitting the driver and an old lady passenger inside the jitney.
When the jitney suffered a flat tire in Villasis, the suspect became enraged, blocking and throwing stones at passing vehicles. It was then when Ramos, who was driving his motorcycle to report to duty in Urdaneta City, saw the suspect and tried to pacify him.
Cayanan also tried to hit Ramos with a wrench even after the latter identified himself as a police officer.
But when Cayanan managed to stop a Five Star Bus and attempted to drive away with the passengers on board after hitting the driver, Ramos shot him after the suspect refused to surrender and stop the bus.
Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered one heat sealed transparent plastic sachet containing crystalline substance suspected as shabu from the slain suspect’s pocket.
The suspect’s relatives said Cayanan was a known drug user. (Tita Roces)
