48 election officers set for revamp
ALL the 44 town and four city election officers in Pangasinan will be reshuffled in preparation for the May 9 polls as part of the Commission on Elections’ campaign to ensure honest and credible elections.
Atty. Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor of Pangasinan, and who was one of four election supervisors in Region 1 who was revamped from their posts effective Feb. 16.
Atty. Joel Gines of La Union took over Salas’ post, while he (Salas), was transferred to Ilocos Norte for the election period.
“But for purposes of teachers’ training, we will still be around,” Salas said.
Comelec Regional Director Julius Torres from the Cordillera region also took over on Feb. 9 the post of Regional Director for Region 1 while Noli Pipo who was transferred to Region 2.
“The battle of Chairman Andres Bautista is for honest elections. Not only honest because we’re saying it’s honest but it should be the people saying it’s honest and part of the honesty is credibility,” Salas said.
“All of us including election officers down to municipal levels nationwide will be reshuffled,” he added.
Meanwhile, Salas said Pangasinan now has 1, 705, 260 registered voters for the May polls.
Cebu is number one with 2.7 million voters followed by Cavite with 1.8 million and third is Pangasinan among the vote-rich provinces nationwide.
In terms of percentage of voters’ turnout during elections, Salas said Pangasinan is the highest with 81 percent among areas having more than 1 million voters.
“Because based on findings, voters in Pangasinan are really from Pangasinan unlike in Cebu, Cavite and Bulacan which have many transient voters,” he said.
He said this explains why many national candidates flock to Pangasinan during campaign period. (Tita Roces)
