100 farmers’ groups get water pumps
LINGAYEN— To help mitigate the impact of El Niño, the Espino administration provided 100 organizations of farmers and irrigators in the province with water pumps and engine sets.
Gov. Amado Espino Jr., Vice Gov. Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr., and Board Member Amado Espino III led the distribution of the farming tools to the Small Water Irrigation System Associations (SWISA) and farmers’ organizations last week in Lingayen.
Mr. Espino, reiterating that Pangasinan will remain as an agricultural province in the coming years, vowed continuous support to the farmers with their irrigation needs, farm inputs, and modern technology while the younger Espino and Calimlim, stressed the importance of preparation.
“Just as how the provincial government, led by Gov. Espino, has prepared the health services of the province, we are preparing for the benefit of our farmers,” Mr. Calimlim said.
Jose Locading, vice president of SWISA Pangasinan, thanking the provincial government for its quick response, he recalled that his group submitted a request for assistance anticipating the onset of El Niño.
“We forwarded to the Governor’s Office, and the Governor, who is a farmer himself, immediately responded positively to our request,” he said.
Locading also cited efforts of the Espino administration in rehabilitating irrigation systems in the province.
The recipients were from groups from Agno, Alaminos City, Anda, Bani, Bolinao, Sual, and Infanta (first district); Aguilar, Mangatarem, and Urbiztondo (second district); Calasiao, Malasiqui, Mapandan, and Sta. Barbara (third district); Manaoag (fourth district); Alcala, Binalonan, Pozorrubio, Sto.
