Pangasinan received P257-M for National Greening Program
THE national government has invested P257.6-million in Pangasinan since 2011 for the National Greening Program (NGP), report from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office said.
From 2011 to November 2015, some 16,917, 478 seedlings of various species were planted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources across Pangasinan under the NGP banner.
Leduina Co, provincial environment and natural resources officer, said these were planted in 22,412 hectares with mostly timber and high-value forest trees and the direct expenses include purchase of seedlings, site preparation, maintenance and protection.
The survival rate of the planted seedlings is 85 percent, she said.
NGP also generated jobs for upland farmers and to members of people’s organizations who plant and take care of the planted seedlings because these are planted in integrated social forestry areas.
From January to November 27 this year, 5, 294,827 seedlings were planted; 11,622,651 in 2014 and 5,777 in 2013. In 2012 planted were 3,220.7 and 3,220.7 seedlings in 2011.
Co added that 190,000 seedlings were planted in 382 hectares of land to replace trees cut along the MNR network. (Tita Roces)
