LINGAYEN – The Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) will continue to maintain its full alert status as a precursor to the national elections in May.

P/ Senior Supt. Rolie Saltat, officer-in-charge at PPPO, said the Pangasinan PNP will continue until June 8.

He said all police stations in the province will start doing checkpoints in key areas and other police operations on the evening of January 9 to ensure a peaceful situation in the province throughout the campaign period.

P/ Supt. Ferdinand De Asis, PPPO chief of police community relations, said the Pangasinan police will ensure implementation of election laws by deploying police personnel on the ground on 12-hour shifts.

“All police stations have been tasked to intensify their checkpoint operations and ‘Oplan Sita,’ serving search warrants for loose firearms and arrest of suspected gun-for-hire personalities,” said De Asis.

PPPO will also tap Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATS) and Protective Security Personnel (PSP) to conduct community-based activities and information campaign against crimes.

Meanwhile, Saltat reminded all law enforcers and security personnel to renew their exemptions from the ban on possessing, carrying and transporting firearms or deadly weapons with the Commission on Elections. (PIA-1, Pangasinan)
