CALASIAO– The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) officially opened its Regional Consular Office (RCO) in Calasiao at the Robinsons Place.

DFA Undersecretary Rafael Seguis said the long-anticipated opening has finally come and he thanked the Robinsons Place for the free rental extended to the office.

“RCO-Calasiao is now officially open for business and we are confident that we can give world-class consular services to the public,” Seguis said.

Former Senator Leticia Ramos -Shahani, a former diplomat who hails from Asingan town here, said she hopes that the DFA branch would make Pangasinenses foreign policy-conscious.

Her son, Board Member Ranjit Ramos Shahani, was instrumental in the establishment of a DFA office in Pangasinan.

Vice Governor Ferdinand Calimlim, who represented Gov. Amado Espino, Jr, said the DFA office would save time and money for Pangasinenses as they do not need to travel to Manila to avail of consular services.

Part of the DFA office is the Narciso Ramos Hall named after Don Narciso Ramos, a former Secretary of Foreign Affairs and served the country under four Presidents.

Former President Ramos, who displayed agility and humor even at age 87, emphasized in his speech the four T’s that Pinoys should put premium: Technology, Teaching, Tourism and Teamwork.

Other personalities present during the affair were DFA Assistant Secretary Frank Cimafranca, 3rd District Rep. Rosemarie Arenas, Calasiao Mayor Mark  Macanlalay and provincial board members. (VHS/PIA-1Pangasinan)
