Dagupan holds 1st Children Summit on Health
THE Children’s Summit on Health anchored on the theme “Batang Dagupeño: Mas Masaya, Mas Malusog, at Mas Matalino” was held in Dagupan City for the 22,000 kindergarten and Grade 1-10 pupils and students in the city last week.
According to Froserfina Bravo, officer-in-charge as schools division superintendent in Dagupan City, the summit, organized by the city government in partnership with the DepEd, sought to provide education among school children on the recurring issues on health.
The opening program’s guest speaker, Congressman Leni Robredo, hailed the initiatives of the event citing the importance of the summit.
Ms. Robredo cited the benefits for teaching children good health practices and providing an avenue for linkages among concerned sectors particularly with barangay health workers.
Mayor Belen Fernandez assured DepEd and parents of the city government’s continued support for the promotion of the health and overall well-being of the city’s pupils and students.
Among the lectures conducted were on proper handwashing for the kindergartens to Grades 3, on proper hygiene for the Grades 4-6, and on puberty and lifestyle diseases for the Grades 7-10.
The summit also conducted competitions in storytelling/brush dance, pageant, spelling contest, singing, salad and tuna sandwich making, jingle writing and singing, module art, battle bands, slogan contest, and quiz bee on health in collaboration with the Pangasinan Medical Society, the Pangasinan Pediatric Society and other private organizations.
Other personalities who graced the summit’s opening included former Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla, Fourth District Representative Gina De Venecia, former House Speaker Joe De Venecia and DOH Region 1 Assistant Regional Director Edwin Sanchez. (Johanne Macob.)
