DAGUPAN CITY – Mayor Belen T. Fernandez led the city government during necrological services in honor of Dr. Edwin Aguirre who passed away on January 11 due to lingering illness.
Aguirre was Executive Assistant III at the City Mayor’s Office who had been instrumental in running special and major events of the city like the Bangus Festival, Agew na Dagupan and City Fiesta.
“I had known Edwin since I was still a Councilor and I depended on him on so many occasions. He always stood for me when I had many pressing commitments and those commitments that I found great difficulty to refuse, I know there was Edwin whom I could always count on,” said Fernandez as she recounted the days working with him.
Fernandez said few people can match the energy of Edwin especially during those sleepless nights he devoted in planning many special events in the city.
“The success of these events all bore the hallmark of hard work, industry and dedication of a good public servant like Edwin and the team that he led,” added Fernandez.
Fernandez acknowledged the towering authority of Edwin as he worked closely with many civic organizations and was also able to establish a working partnership with many business establishments because of his goodwill and good relations with a lot of people.
“The passing of Edwin is a great loss to the city. it would probably take a long time for me to find the kind of passion, the love and the commitment he had shown when he was working with me. He was entrusted with so much power and authority but he did not abuse it,” Fernandez said.
Fernandez said he will always remember Aguirre by the legacy he left behind for everyone to remember.
Aguirre was also a devoted Rotarian. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
