Water treatment facility up in Mabini soon

MABINI— A P500-million water treatment facility will be built here by MacroAsia Company.

Jonathan Cabrera, manager of water development project of MacroAsia, said the groundbreaking ceremony was held after a memorandum of agreement was signed between his company, local government officials led by Mayor Carlitos Reyes and other major stakeholders.

The plant will be built in Barangay Nibaliw at no cost to the local government.

Cabrera said initially the company will drill for five million liters of water at the Mabini River and will increase to 15 million liters a day, the capacity of the water treatment plant.

Alaminos City can be an extended beneficiary if it is willing to take the offer.

The project will seek to minimize the dependency of the community on groundwater or deep wells since it will not be sustainable anymore for the long term to serve the community’s requirements.

“The trend now is utilization of service water from the river. That is what we are going to develop for water supply of the municipality,” Cabrera said.

He said water from the Mabini River is clean and they have secured permit from the National Water Resources Board for the project.

The identified approved area for their drilling operation is at the downstream of the river, he added.— (Tita Roces)
