Teacher charged for slapping students
P300,000 BAIL RECOMMENDED
URDANETA CITY—A teacher was jailed at the city police station detention cell here and charged for violation of Republic Act 7610 (Anti-Child Child Abuse Law) and grave threats for reportedly slapping the faces of her high school students.
Superintendent Jeff Fanged, city police chief, said Tuesday that Maricar Magtoto, 21, single, resident of Barangay Carmen East Rosales, and a newly hired teacher was charged by four of the eight students whom she allegedly physically hurt.
The school filed an administrative case while UCPS filed criminal charges for child abuse and grave threat.
Magtoto, the victims’ class adviser, was reportedly angered last Nov. 27 because of her students’ alleged bullying of their female classmate at the Panpacific University North Philippines campus in Barangay San Vicente here.
She instructed her eight students to close their eyes and slapped their faces and verbally threatened them with more bodily harm, Fanged said.
Of the eight victims, only four, however, executed their complaint-affidavits.
Fanged said the parents of the three students signified to withdraw their complaint.
He said this is the first time a teacher in their jurisdiction was charged for hurting students.
“She is still detained and her recommended bail is more than P300,000,” Fanged added.
Fanged said the police had a memorandum of agreement with schools in the city that students who bully fellow students must be reported by the school officials/teachers concerned to the police for a dialogue with their parents. (Tita Roces/ Hilda Austria)
