Hundreds of pregnant women troop to the 9th Buntis Congress conducted by the provincial government through the Provincial Health Office.

The pregnant women actively engaged in lectures and counselling focused on maternal health care (MHC) program with emphasis on high quality family planning, responsible parenthood, ante-natal and post-partum care.

Free-of-charge services in laboratory examination, pre-natal check-up, ultra sound, beauty care, dental care, livelihood program, counselling on PhilHealth and breastfeeding, mobile chest x-ray, and flu vaccine (for senior citizens) were given during the congress.

Provincial Health Officer II Anna Ma. Teresa De Guzman stressed at the opening program that “MHC promotion on Pangasinan is made even more effective and advantageous to Pangasinenses with the implementation of the Point-of-Care (POC), a joint program of the PhilHealth and the provincial government.”

Anyone with POC enrolment can avail of free medical services in the 14 provincial government-owned hospitals.

The provincial health officer likewise advised pregnant women to have four pre-natal check-ups in the whole duration of their pregnancy; and undergo delivery in health facilities attended by skilled birth attendants to ensure that proper medical attention will be given to them.

Along with Mayor Domantay, Vice Mayor Noel Geslani, Municipal Health Officer Marlo De Guzman and representatives from PHO’s partner agencies and offices in health care services were also present during the activity.

Selected pregnant women in town also vied for the “Prettiest Preggy title” which manifests empowerment of the women sector in Malasiqui. (Mark Gerry Oblanca)
