POZORRUBIO—Move over ‘Robo Cop.’ The Pozorrubio Police Station has an improved version with a better mission. Meet ‘Rubio Cop’.

Inspired by the popularity of Robo Cop, the movie, and instead of adopting the usual scare tactics on children, the town’s police station found to create ‘Rubio Cop’, to lead the campaign for zero-fatality among children in lighting firecrackers during the holiday season and New Year revelry.

Chief Inspector Ryan Manongdon, the town police chief, said the name ‘Rubio Cop,’ is lifted from the last five letters of their town, and effectively became the station’s ambassador of goodwill to schools and barangays with one mission: to discourage and warn children of the dangers of lighting firecrackers while he entertains them.

RUBIO COP

Manongdo said Rubio Cop easily catches the attention of children and creates the opportunity that makes it conducive for young minds to listen and learn from the police.

He said his wife who is from this town and her classmates, helped the police raise funds for the mascot’s cosplay.

“Rubio Cop can easily make the children listen to teachings,” Manongdo said.

Two policemen will alternate in wearing the Rubio Cop costume and make the scheduled appearances.

Since, most of the schools had their Christmas parties last Dec. 17, Rubio Cop, assisted by uniformed policemen who speak for him, joined the parties and easily became the surprise attraction.

The police chief said Rubio Cop’s visitations will be sustained after the holidays to help educate children on how to avoid being victims of crimes in their communities and schools. (Tita Roces)
