MANGALDAN—This town’s very own ‘Pasalubong Center’, the first in the fourth district of Pangasinan, officially opened for business last December 16.

Mayor Bonafe Parayno said the center will promote the town’s one-town-one-product (OTOP), the famous ‘Pindang’ or Carabao meat to tourists and pilgrims to the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Manaoag.

The center will also sell other meat-processed products of the town, i.e., ‘Batutay,’ ‘tapa,’ bangus sardines and peanut brittle.

The ‘Pasalubong Center’ is situated in front of the municipal hall.

The center will consider selling products of other towns but the mayor said it will first focus on selling and promoting the products of the town.

Ms. Parayno said the production of the goods to be sold will be handled by the local government with the use of the funds and equipment provided by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) under the bottoms-up-budgeting (BUB).

She clarified that the prices of the products sold in the center will be the same as the pricing of the vendors in the market and other establishments.

“There will be a friendly competition and the center will cater mostly to the tourists who visit our town at night when the market is already close, we do not want to compete with our vendors”, said the mayor.

The town was already given a special recognition by the Provincial Tourism Office for establishing their own ‘Pasalubong Center.’

Parayno said the grand opening will be on December 30. (Hilda Austria)
