TARGET: ZERO-DROWNING

LINGAYEN-The provincial government has launched Oplan Paskuhan from Dec. 24, 2015 to January 3 next year, putting safeguards in place in order to prevent drowning at the Lingayen Beach and other beaches in Pangasinan during the holiday season.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) spokesperson Avenix Arenas said, members of the Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) team have been deployed near the Lingayen Beach since Dec. 24.

Also mobilized were elements of the Police Provincial Office (PPO) and the emergency response team of the Provincial Health Office.

Noting that most of the drowning victims are visitors and mostly intoxicated, Arenas said the WASAR team will be on the lookout for picnickers.

Meanwhile, the Tondaligan Park Administration in Dagupan has also mobilized its lifeguards to watch out for beach bathers who swim outside the designated boundaries.

Another safeguard is the ban of sale and drinking liquor in the beach area and swimming will be up to 5:00 p.m. only. (Leonardo Micua)
