Duterte warns drug lords, corrupt officials
CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
THE drug lords, corrupt local officials and recidivists in Pangasinan were among those especially targeted by the special Christmas message of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, PDP-Laban’s standard bearer in 2016 elections.
“Huling Christmas na ito ng mga kurakot at kriminal. Sa susunod na taon, magpapasko silang lahat sa bilangguan. Hindi namin hahayaan na maghari ang katiwalian at kriminalidad sa ating bansa,” said Mr. Duterte.
He told The PUNCH he is aware Pangasinan has been tagged as a major transshipment point for illegal drugs by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the provincial government and police are currently undertaking intensive campaign against illegal drugs.
Mr. Duterte’s running mate, Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano, said that if he and Mr. Duterte are elected in 2016, they will immediately set into motion programs and policies towards stamping out criminality, illegal drug trafficking, and corruption during their first year in service.
In a 30-second video, the mayor warned criminals, corrupt officials, and drug addicts that they will suffer the consequences if they don’t stop making the lives of Filipinos miserable.
Political observers here said the message was totally unexpected since no politician in the past had dared to directly address criminality as Mr. Duterte has done.
“Kayong mga nagpapahirap sa mga Pilipino, kung ayaw ninyong huminto at patuloy pa rin ang karahasan, ito na ang huli ninyong Merry Christmas,” the mayor said.
“Kaya ang payo ko sa mga kriminal, dorogista, at mga korap, isali niyo na sa New Year’s resolution ninyo ang pagbabagong buhay. Dahil sa oras na magkaroon tayo ng isang Duterte na pangulo, ito na ang huling Paskong ipagdiriwang niyong masaya,” as Cayetano echoed Duterte’s latest message to criminals and corrupt officials.

Mr. Cayetano said they will accomplish this through the implementation of an aggressive national anti-crime campaign, starting in the country’s identified crime hot spots and conduct an no-nonsense campaign against the illegal drug trade in the country.
Addressing those who doubt Mr. Duterte’s resolve, Mr. Cayetano said only Mayor Duterte has the ability to do for the entire country what he was able to do for Davaoeños, protecting them against criminals and illegal drug syndicates, and weeding out graft and corruption in government.
“Sawa na ang mga Pilipino sa kabi-kabilang krimen at korapsyon sa gobyerno. Dapat pagdating sa mga problemang ito, walang forever. Real change is needed, and it is needed now. This is the foundation of the Duterte-Cayetano tandem,” Cayetano concluded. #
