THIS Dagupan City government was cited again by the Regional Committee for the Welfare of the Children (RCWC) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as the Most Child-Friendly City in Region 1.

The award was presented during the program celebrating the 2015 Regional Children’s Month held in Vigan City in Ilocos Sur last November 27.

Cited by DSWD Regional Director Marcelo Nicomedes J. Castillo, RCWC chair, were the city’s programs on creating awareness among children on disaster preparedness; providing for a child-friendly space for children in evacuation areas in times of emergency; conducting Children’s Congress yearly; and for giving children the opportunity to exercise their right to participate in running the government through the “Manlinkor a Kalangweran” program.

Also recognized were the launching of the Anti-Bullying and Anti-Drugs hotlines in collaboration with the Philippine National Police and the Department of Education to save and protect the children of Dagupan City.

Mayor Fernandez credited the Dagupan City department heads, Chief of Police P/Supt Christopher Abrahano, Schools Division Superintendent Froserfina  Bravo and the council for the protection of children.

Fernandez said the city will continue to create awareness and develop the children through music, sports and education.

“Building the future for our children will always be a challenge for each Dagupeño,” the mayor said.

Corollary to this, Mayor Fernandez will deliver her first State of the Children Address at West Central 1 Elementary School which will coincide with the school’s Elementary Week Celebration on December 7.

The program will focus on the rights of a child, anti-bullying and on how to take care of children’s health. (JCB/CIO)
