Capitol hosts “Simbang Gabi”

LINGAYEN—The provincial government again led the observance of the Filipino Christmas tradition by hosting the celebration of the anticipated Simbang Gabi at the Capitol Plaza every 5 p.m. from December 15 to 23.

Midnight mass for Christmas in celebration of the Nativity of the Lord, will be held on December 24, 8PM at the Capitol grounds.

Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. and his wife, First Lady Prescilla “Mely” I. Espino led the lighting of the candle that signified the 3rd week of Advent.

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) President Archbishop Socrates ‘Soc’ Villegas, celebrated the first anticipated mass which had to be moved to the Pangasinan Training and Development Center due to the inclement weather.

The Lingayen-Dagupan archbishop urged devotees to complete the nine-day novena masses.

Villegas expressed his gratitude to Gov. Espino. for leading not only the Simbang Gabi tradition, and described the latter as a ‘blessing’ to the province of Pangasinan.

In turn, Mr. Espino expressed his elation over the archbishop’s statements in his Homily.

“I was so touched. I never expected that…” said Mr. Espino thanked Father Soc.

Governor said, “Mga kababayan, kalimutan natin ang pulitika. Kalimutan natin ang hidwaan o anuman ‘yan… sabay tayong magmahalan at isipin natin ang ating lalawigan.”

“Let us be role models for our youth to emulate,” he added and also encouraged his provincemates to attend all the Simbang Gabi. (Johanne Macob/PIO)
