PPO cites police officers, volunteers for heroic efforts

DURING TYPHOON LANDO

LINGAYEN— The Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) recognized last week the services of 31 police officers who performed beyond the call of duty and of 20 civilian volunteers who responded to the call for assistance at the height of the emergency during the onslaught of Typhoon Lando.

Medals were presented to the police officers, namely:  (PPPO) Supt. Marlon Canam, Supt. Ferdinand De Asis, Supt. Benjamin Ariola, Sr. Insp. Mark Anthony Aningalan, and SPO2 Tirso Canilang; (Dagupan City) Supt. Christopher Abrahano, Sr. Insp. Joseph Mark Sibayan, SPO4 Froilan Esteban, SPO2 Salvador Cacho, and PO1 Ernesto Aquino; (Urdaneta City) Supt. Jeff Fanged, SPO4 Orlando Romano, SPO1 Joselito Lomibao, PO3 Anthony Caldona, and PO1 Francisco Ordonez Jr.; (Aguilar) y Sr. Insp. Arturo Melchor Jr., SPO4 Rafael Palma, SPO1 Edgar Salgado, PO3 Roderick Gonzales, and PO1 Dondon Manuel; (Binalonan) Chief Insp. Oliver Abayan, SPO4 Roel Duca, PO3 Aquililino Elcano III, PO2 Louie Andales, PO1 Romeo Esteves, and PO1 Felizardo Aquino Jr.; (Bugallon) Chief Insp. Dominick Poblete, SPO4 Raymundo Paragas, SPO1 Tirsp Toledo, PO3 Emerito Mamenta, and PO1 Louie Pianar.

The civilian volunteers who were cited were: (Aguilar) Rev. Ed Inacay, Nicasio Sison, Brgy. Capt. Ronillo Formentera, Brgy. Capt, Conrado Hermosado Sr., and Brgy. Kgwd. Henry Muyalde; (Urdaneta City) Henry Kang, Jorge Torres Jr., Norberto Gotgotao, Carlito Costales Jr., and Generosa Comadre; (Binalonan) Joseph Evangelista, Norman Ramos, Danny Sibayan, Cesar Tomelden, and Ramil Mina; (Bugallon) Brgy. Capt. Rolando Manaoat, Brgy. Capt. Bryan Ocampo, Brgy. Capt. Ildebrando Maza, Freddie Quila, and Samuel Acam.

Fr. Eduardo Inacay joined the clearing and relief operations of the police and the municipal government, boarded a banca to deliver relief goods in the flooded areas.

The priest said that one thing he was able to confirm during said difficult time was that the value of ‘pakikipagkapwa’ and ‘bayanihan’ are still present among people.

Sison, the head of the Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council in Aguilar town, and his staff were deprived of sleep- for at least four days busily monitoring or conducting clearing, relief, and rescue operations mostly in the four villages- Bocboc East, Bocboc West, Panacol, San Jose.

Asked how he was able to monitor his own family with his workload during the typhoon, he responded, “It was a good thing my son went home that time so I was confident of my family’s safety even if I was not with them.”

Aguilar was one of the towns in the province which suffered badly due to flash floods. Pangasinan, as a whole, was also declared under state of calamity.

P/Supt. De Asis, head of PPO’s police community relations, was in charge of deploying teams from the first responders, trained water search and rescue personnel, down to office personnel to all affected areas in the province to complement personnel in other affected areas.”
