Killer of cockpit arena owner identified
CALASIAO—The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) is already in hot pursuit of the hitman who shot and killed cockpit arena owner and businessman Adolfo Fernandez Jr. last November 15.
This was announced by P/Senior Supt. Rolie Saltat, officer-in-charge at the PPPO shortly after the suspect was identified through the facial composite illustration given by eyewitnesses.
Saltat said the identified suspect is a gun-for-hire with several criminal records outside Region1.
“He is not a resident of Pangasinan not even in the region”, he said.
He added they are now hot on the trail of the suspect who can identify the mastermind behind Fernandez’s murder.
Fernandez was shot by the suspect while on board his Toyota Fortuner on his way out of his cockpit arena. He was still able to drive along the highway to seek help among the bystanders but the suspect followed him and shot some more and escaped.
Fernandez was brought to a nearby hospital but eventually died while undergoing treatment.
The investigators recovered eight fired cartridge cases and two deformed fired bullet of a caliber .45 handgun.
Saltat said the motive for the crime can be established once the suspect is arrested.
Meanwhile, PPPO conducted case conference November 19 which tackled unresolved shooting incidents in the province.
“We reminded our policemen of their responsibility other than preventing crimes, that is to solve crimes committed, investigate, arrest suspect and file charges against perpetrators”, Saltat said.
Although Dagupan City and San Carlos City have the highest number of shooting incident due to its highly-urbanized setting, Saltat said the police in the two cities were able to solve these incidents.
“We want our other police chiefs to fast- track the investigation and prosecution of suspects so that justice for the victims will not be delayed”, Saltat said.
He added this is still part of their on-going operations in “Lambat Sibat”. (Hilda Austria)
