Cojuangco cites Scouters’ oath for character development
COJUANGCO UPDATES
FORMER Pangasinan Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco recently exhorted boy and girl scouts to imbibe and put into practice their oath and law to make them succeed in life.
Speaking at the Division BSP-GSP Camporal and Encampment in Bacnar National High School, San Carlos City on Nov. 12, Cojuangco said the oath and laws of scouting recited respectively by Jenica Me Prudenciado and Dexter Castro, mean “if you live by them, you become a good person”.
He specifically mentioned the phrase, “to help other people at all times, to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight” as a call to the scouts to be always prepared, which is their motto.
Cojuangco, a gubernatorial bet in Pangasinan for 2016, also said scouting provides the youth to have the chance to be together and practice the values taught them by their scout masters/coordinators.
He said, being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent are important values.
“It is a very nice character development to make you productive and good citizens of the country,” he said.
The three-time former congressman also thanked the scouts’ parents, teachers, scout masters/coordinators for giving their time, efforts and sacrifices.
He said these are big capital for youth development.
Cojuangco made the scouts happier by “being ready” to extend financial help to them, with each of the 20 groups of boy scouts and another 20 groups of girl scouts from 20 participating schools as recipients for their encampment up to Nov. 15.
He also advised them not to waste their time.
Present during the opening ceremonies to welcome Cojuangco as their guest of honor and speaker were Bacnar National High School Principal Rica Macam, Barangay Captain Melchor Malasan, BSP Division Coordinator Jeffrey Munoz, BSP Division Field Adviser Racquel dela Cruz, Division BSP Commissioner Severo Mil Jr, Division GSP Commissioner Priscilla Castro, Bacnar Head teacher Virgilio Ferrer, OIC Asst. Schools Div. Supt. Mario Carino and Division Schools Supt.
