ALAMINOS CITY –If you are overweight and can’t compete in regular marathons, don’t despair. The Alaminos City government organized the “Fat Run” on Thursday at the Lucap Warf here to promote health consciousness among overweight residents this week.

Miguel Sison, head of the city tourism office in Alaminos, said the event aims to give chance to overweight residents to become more conscious about their health and promote camaraderie among the city’s overweight employees.

“The run is open to men weighing 80 kilograms and women weighing 60 kilograms, regardless of age,” Sison said.

The registration for the run is free and every runner upon registration should present a certification from the city health office certifying that they are physically fit to run.

Sison said the run covers five kilometers for the men’s category beginning from the main Lucap Warf, and three kilometers for the women’s category starting from the arc of Barangay Lucap up to the same finish line in Bonifacio Monument in the city proper.

“Runners who are not qualified by their weight are also encouraged to participate but they will not be included in the competition,” said Sison stressing that prices will be given to “fat runners” who exerted efforts to excel from among their peers.

The sports festival will run from November 6 until December. (EMS/PIA-1, Pangasinan)
