LINGAYEN– Considering the costly damages that Typhoon ‘Lando’ caused the agricultural sector, Governor Amado Espino Jr. said he is compelled to request for a realignment of next year’s budget to provide additional funds to help farmers.

“I requested our board members to increase the budget for agriculture,” said Mr. Espino.

He said the increase which may be about P50-60 million will aid the farmers not only to recover from the typhoon’s damage but also from the expected El Nino.

The additional fund will be used to provide farm inputs to include seeds, fertilizer and irrigation.

As of October 26, reported damage to agriculture has reached P2.3 billion with other farm areas still being assessed.

In the meantime, the provincial government, with its calamity fund, continues to help the farmers and other typhoon-affected constituents through rehabilitation projects while a team from the Office of the Civil Defense Region 1, with concerned agencies as the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, conducted a Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment in the province.
