What? No pinakbet for 2 months?
PANGASINENSES may have to miss their favorite pinakbet dish in the next 60 days because many farms that raise the vegetables for this popular Ilocandia food were destroyed by Typhoon Lando.
Department of Agriculture Region 1 Director Valentin Perdido said it will take about two months more before eggplant, okra, tomato can become abundant again.
He, however, said the vegetable areas between fruit trees were not totally damaged, only areas that were flooded were.
Since Ilocos Sur which was not heavily devastated, it can be expected to supply the pinakbet vegetables in the province, he said.
Perdido said instead of pinakbet, vegetable lovers may instead resort to eating vegetable beans like pechay or string beans.
Former Villasis Mayor Nato Abrenica said their pinakbet plantations may take some time to recover from the damage caused by Lando.
Villasis is known as the Pinakbet Bowl of Pangasinan. (Tita Roces)
