2015 PRISAA INTER-COLLEGIATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

REYNALD Ballesteros and Dennis Cuaresma sparkled in the final period as University of Luzon Golden Tigers inflicted more misery on Philippine Colleges of Science and Technology Topnotch with an easy 85-77 sweeping victory to clinch the 2015 PRISAA Inter-Collegiate Basketball Championship held on October 12 at Dagupan People’s Astrodome.

Sustaining his strong play, Ballesteros imposed his will anew with 18 points, eight rebounds and two steals, while the high leaping center and MVP awardee Cuaresma also came up a solid outing of 12 boards and 12 points, eight each of them done at the last quarter alone.

It was the third straight championship conquest of the Perez boulevard-based Tigers of Chito Samson who closed out the season undefeated.

“We started slow in the first quarter, 12-21, but we settled down and worked extra hard in the last three periods especially on our 1-3-1 defense which rattled them, said coach Renato “Jack” Vidal. “But it was really our experience that mattered most that led us to victory,” Vidal said.

Point-guards Kevin Sespeñe and Mario Torio contributed 17 and 13 points, respectively.
Topnotch Efren Boada scored a team high 14 points with teammates Francis dela Peña and Rhenz Abando chipping in 11 points apiece.

In the first game, PAMMA surprised AIE College, 89-79, to finish third place. (Jesus A. Garcia, Jr.)
