Team Alaminos wins 1st Pangasinan Tourism Quiz Bee

Team Alaminos composed of Angielyn C. Arconcil and Amelyn O. Dela Pena of Alaminos City National High School, bested 25 other competing teams which involve Grade 10 students from public and private schools in various parts of the province.

The quiz bee, which was launched by the present administration and one of the highlights of this year’s tourism month celebration, is a pet project of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. that was made possible through the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Office (PTCAO) in coordination with line agencies like the Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Office, Pangasinan Visitors Bureau, Pangasinan Heritage Society, Pangasinan Council of Tourism Industries Inc., among others.

It can be recalled that elimination rounds were conducted in the municipal level wherein all winners advanced to the provincial level.

Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. disclosed that under the Espino administration, tourism and culture revolution has become very much alive and vibrant.

Hundreds of students compete in the 1st Pangasinan Tourism Quiz Bee at the Sison Auditorium in Lingayen. The talent contest was one of the highlights of the Tourism Month Celebration.  The event is among the project of the Espino administration that aims to educate the youth on Pangasinan culture and arts. /MVSADIM

“We are now even more proud now in being Pangasinenses than being Filipinos and this will be our marching chant for a better Pangasinan, “the vice governor said.

Meanwhile, PTCAO chief Ma. Luisa A. Elduayan said the program is fully supported by Gov. Espino and the entire provincial board.

Thus, she urged the local government units (LGUs) in Pangasinan to actively contribute and to promote awareness on the province’s tourism, culture and arts in schools and communities, as well.

Runner-ups for the quiz contest include LGU Basista which was represented by Ericka Caranto and Marinela M. Ocampo (1st runner-up), and LGU Tayug with Kevin Conrad A. Ibasco and Ian Joshua B. De Mesa representing the team (2nd runner-up).

All contestants, who are considered the best in the municipal level category, underwent three levels of the competition namely the easy round, average, and difficult where each comprised of 10 questions.

Questions were based on Pangasinan’s local history, culture, tourism attractions, products and tourism services.

The champion team went home with P7,000, while the runner-ups were each awarded with P5,000 and P3,000.

LGU Tayug, which was accorded as the biggest delegation, likewise received a special prize./RRB
