No violence reported during COC filing period
PEACEFUL BUT NOT QUIET
THE Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) said that except with the usual noisy hoopla in some towns, no violent incident was reported in any part of the province during the period of filing of certificates of candidacy.
P/Superintendent Ferdinand de Asis confirmed this during the KBP Forum last week.
De Asis said that at least two police officers were assigned to each town’s Commission on Election (Comelec) office while a team of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and one Philippine Public Safety team was stationed at the provincial Comelec office in Dagupan City.
Meanwhile, the PPPO, he said, is in favor of an earlier election gun ban, citing the decrease in the number of shooting incidents and increase in the number of confiscated loose firearms.
“We recommend total gun ban during which only the personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and security agencies shall have access to firearms,” he said.
The election period is from January 10 to June 8, the supposed period for gun ban implementation.
The Comelec is expected to identify ‘hotspots’ and PPPO will detail more personnel in those areas. (Johanne Macob)
