12 DEATHS

LINGAYEN—Pangasinan Health Office (PHO) already recorded 3,200 dengue cases, 60% higher than last year’s data for the same comparative period, and 12 deaths due to dengue, also higher than last year’s six deaths.

Most of the victims were males, aged one to 19 years old.

The death cases this year were recorded from January to September in the towns of Villasis, Agno, Infanta, San Fabian, Bugallon, Dagupan City, Sta. Barbara, Sison, and Bayambang. The youngest victim was a two-year-old.

De Guzman said the outbreak level has not been reached but the numbers are in their alert threshold.

Six towns in the province have reached their epidemic levels three weeks ago although the towns have not declared them to be so.

Top municipalities under current PHO watch list on dengue are Alaminos City, Bolinao, Sison, Bani, San Fabian, Mangaldan, Asingan, Anda, Pozorrubio, and Umingan.

Meanwhile, PHO is again distributing olysets or treated mosquito nets to various schools in the province as part of the campaign against dengue.

PHO head, Dr. Anna De Guzman, said a recent inventory of schools in the province earlier provided with such mosquito nets showed many need replacements.

The olysets are being used as curtains to prevent the entry of dengue-carrying mosquitoes into the classrooms.

De Guzman said priority for the distribution are schools in areas with high dengue prevalence. (Johanne Macob)
