It’s Fernandez vs. Lim again
A RETURN BOUT
IT is still Fernandez-Fernandez versus Lim-Lim in Dagupan, a virtual revival of the political and commercial contest between the owners of CSI and Magic.
This after Celia Lim, wife of former mayor Benjamin Lim, filed her certificate of candidacy for mayor in tandem with her son Vice Mayor Brian Lim who is running for reelection for his second term in office.
It was the father-son tandem (Benjamin and Brian) that faced the Fernandez-Fernandez (no relations) team in 2013.
The Lims own the Magic Malls while the family of Mayor Fernandez owns the CSI Malls.
Those who also filed their COCs with the Lims are reelectionists Councilor Redford Erfe Mejia and Guillermo Vallejos and comebacking councilor Luis Samson Jr.
The mother and son tandem filed their certificates of candidacy last Friday at the City Elections Office accompanied by their supporters.
The Lim matriarch is running as an independent candidate while Brian is running under the Nacionalista Party. However, the vice mayor said the nomination of her mother is still under consideration by the NP.
Mr. Lim said that in filing, they want to keep democracy alive in Dagupan, by giving the people a choice. He said it is not healthy for democracy to leave the Fernandezes unopposed.
Reacting to the observation that Lim Team has only three candidates for councilor, the younger Lim said it is not important whether they have a complete ticket or not because what matters is their three councilor bets have a good chance of getting reelected and elected. (Leonardo Micua)
