SAN FABIAN–Beware of bread laced with shabu or “pandeshabu”.

Four employees of a resort in Barangay Tiblong here were hospitalized for food poisoning after eating a brownish bread found later to be laced with illegal drugs called shabu reportedly given by a resort customer.

Rushed to the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan at past 11 p.m. of September 26 were Dessy Ann Buado, 19, front desk clerk; Leonora Calica  Sumera, 68, widow, chef, both, residents of Barangay Tiblong; Analyn Monila, 26, of Barangay Rabon, San Fabian; and Leliosa Grampa, 33, waitress, of Bartangay Calmay, Laoac, Pangasinan, all employees of Moonlight Bay in Barangay Tiblong, San Fabian.

A report to the San Fabian police by Ofelia Sharzadeh, owner of the resort, showed that her four employees ate brownish bread reportedly given by one of their guests identified as Archie Bautista, 30, of No. 1985 Montalban Street, Clarkview, Balibago, Angeles City.

Bautista reportedly gave several pieces of the brownish bread to one of the waitresses of the resort identified as Jonalyn Suba, 33, at around 9:00 PM of September 26.

Suba, in turn, shared the bread with her co-employees, who after consuming the bread, felt dizzy and began to vomit which necessitated their immediate evacuation to the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City for medical treatment.

Sharzadeh, with her employee Suba, who incidentally did not eat the bread, turned over two pieces of the brownish bread to the San Fabian Police Station which they submitted for laboratory examination to the PNP Crime Laboratory in Urdaneta City.

Initial result so far indicated the brownish bread allegedly contained methampethamine hydrochloride called shabu.

Bautista, who has not checked out of the resort yet at that time, was brought to the police station for questioning and later to the PNP Crime Laboratory for examination.

A possible case for violation of Republic Act No. 9165 will soon be filed against the arrested suspect if the result is reconfirmed that the brownish bread was positive of dangerous drugs.
