Comelec lists 1 congressman, 7 mayors, 4 vice mayors, 8 councilors
UNOPPOSED IN 2016 POLLS
ONE congressman, seven mayors, four vice mayors and eight councilors in Pangasinan are running unopposed in the 2016 elections.
Unopposed are Second District re-electionist Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil (LP), Sto. Tomas Mayor Timoteo “Dick” Villar III, Laoac Mayor Silverio Alarcio Jr, San Manuel Mayor Alain Jerico Perez, Sta. Maria Mayor Teodoro Ramos, Urdaneta City Mayor Amadeo Gregorio Perez IV all under the NPC -Biskeg na Pangasinan); Binalonan Mayor Ramon Gucio III (Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats) and Sual Mayor Roberto Arcinue (NP).
All the unopposed mayors are re-electionists.
Villar’s running mate, re-electionist, Wilfredo Pescador, is also unopposed, as well as San Manuel re-electionist Vice Mayor Salvador Perez, father of the unopposed mayor, Sual re-electionist Vice Mayor Dionisio Caburao Jr. who is the tandem of Arcinue and Jesus Franco Sison Jr., a neophyte vice mayoralty candidate of Villasis town (NP).
San Manuel’s son-and-father tandem, Mayor Alain Perez and Vice Mayor Salvador Perez are unopposed.
However, only Sto. Tomas town’s aspirants for councilors are unopposed, namely, Ely Ramos, Benjamin Oculto Jr, Estefania Vengco, Tomas Castañaga Jr, Dominador Lardizabal, Alfredo Eleccion, Leonora Zarasate, all re-electionists and neophyte aspirant for councilor Benito Ordoño.
Ordoño was already a vice mayor in past elections.
STO. TOMAS’ UNPRECENTED RECORD
Villar III is able to sustain the town’s political tradition of having unopposed mayor for nine consecutive elections already, a record unmatched elsewhere in Pangasinan or even countrywide.
The last time a mayoralty candidate was opposed in this town was in the 1988 elections, Villar said.
During that time, then Mayor Antonio “Bebot” Villar Jr. who held his post since pre- Martial Law, was the youngest town chief executive. He held his post for more than 20 years. He is now the chairman of Dangerous Drugs Board with the rank of secretary.
After the Edsa People Power Revolution in 1986, Mr. Villar was the only mayor during Martial Law who remained in his post under President Corazon Aquino’s term in a holdover capacity.
His wife, Vivien, succeeded him and was unopposed in all her six terms. After her first three straight terms, Mr. Villar succeeded her unopposed. She returned again for another three successive terms unopposed.
In 2013, the entire slate of then Vice Mayor Dick Villar for mayor in 2013 had no opponents. His entire slate will again be unopposed in the 2016 polls.
Villar’s team is under the Nationalist People’s Coalition/Biskeg na Pangasinan parties. Biskeg na Pangasinan (Strength of Pangasinan) provincial political party was founded by Antonio Villar Jr.
The 49-year old incumbent mayor, a nephew of the Villar couple, said the key to being unopposed is giving their best for the service of the people, all the days of their term.
He is grateful to the couple for their excellent local governance and their ability to unite the people to achieve greater goal for the majority.
He said he hopes to duplicate the kind of governance his Tito Bebot and Tita Vivien gave to the people.
The councilors simply have to determine who among them will have the highest number of votes for purposes of establishing succession. (Tita Roces)
