BALON DAGUPAN NEWS
DAGUPAN CITY – The Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir (BDCC) earned a ticket to the semi-final round of the Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) National Choral Competition after winning the Regional Elimination at Robinsons Place Mall in Calasiao, Pangasinan on October 17.
From among the six competing children choirs from different cities and municipalities in the region, the Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir was the only one that qualified for the National Semi-Finals on December 8-11 at the Aliw Theater. The group will be competing against 16 choirs nationwide in the semi-final round.
The BDCC was formed by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez to advance and develop the talents of young children in the field of music especially in singing with City Consultants Adolfo Mendoza and Virginia Llamas-Mendoza as conductors.
It is composed of students from different public and private schools in the city aged 8 to 13 years old who started singing as a group on June this year. Their first performance was during the Agew na Dagupan and the State of the City Address of Fernandez.
The group sung one liturgical piece entitled ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’, one pop/cotemporary work ‘Patuloy ang Pangarap’, arranged by Mendoza himself and one regional/folk number ‘Leron, Leron Sinta’ as required in the competition.
The competition was judged by Arnel De Pano, well-known composer, arranger and conductor; and Sherberk Frez Cabrales, distinguished conductor nationally and internationally.
The Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) invited groups from schools, churches, residential communities, offices and special interest groups in its 2015 MBC National Choral Competition.
The choral contests was in two divisions: children’s choirs where the winner will receive P100,000, and the open category which comes with a P150,000 prize.
“We are thankful for the support of Mayor Belen and Madam Leah L. Aquino who made it possible for the formation of the children into a choir and to the parents of the children as well. This will be their first national exposure and there will be more in the future,” said Virginia Llamas-Mendoza. (CIO)
