ALAMINOS CITY— The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 1 Field Office in partnership with the city government of Alaminos conducted a training on “Bamboo Novelty Items Making” for the city’s residents last week.

Held at the City Library, the training was aimed at providing and developing another livelihood opportunity for families to augment their regular income. After the training, the participants were awarded with starter kits which include paint, paint brush, crosscut saw, hammer, drill, and adhesive, among others.

On hand to welcome and encourage participants were City Mayor Arthur Celeste and DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Regional Program Coordinator, Agnes Tambalo, who described the opportunities to the participants, the city being a major tourist destination in the province.

Wennie Cortez, president of the association of bamboo items makers in the city, said the training helped update her members on new techniques in bamboo craft making. The training was part of DSWD’s Accelerated and Sustainable Anti-Poverty Program. (Johanne Macob)
