Owner, helpers charged for dumping rotting chickens
FOR VIOLATING R.A. 9003
POZORRUBIO–Though the 40,000 dead chickens dumped in Barangay Nantalangan here last Sept. 6 were already torched last week, the owner of a poultry farm from Villasis town and his helpers are still accountable for violation of the Solid Wastes Management Act or Republic Act 9003 and other applicable laws.
The burning of the rotting dead chicks supervised by representatives of the Municipal Health Office, was done following an understanding between the local government led by Mayor Artemio Chan and the poultry farm owner Michael Cabreros in order to promptly remove the insufferable stench in the village that affected nearby residents and caused some to become ill.
Cabreros, owner of the Majesty Queen Poultry Farm in Villasis and also the owner of the lot in Barangay Nantalangan where the dead chickens were dumped, said the death of his chickens as a result of the failed air-conditioning system allegedly broke down, resulted in a P2.3 million loss.
The villagers had complained that the foul odor had become so bad that they could no longer eat and sleep.
The ashes of the burnt dead chicken were buried right after in a dug pit while the whole area were sprayed with insecticides to drive away swarms of flies and mosquitoes that could spread diseases. (Leonardo Micua)
